DanvilleElectrician for Danville, Indiana

The county seat since 1824, Danville has two kinds of houses and they need two kinds of electrician. Around the courthouse square there are homes from the 1840s through the 1920s with the wiring history to match. Out past them are the new neighborhoods and the farms and pole barns of western Hendricks County. We do both, and Danville is home base: we have been here since we opened in 2018.

Old wiring around the square, new builds past it

Danville's Courthouse Square Historic District went on the National Register in 2010: 42 contributing buildings that grew up between about 1865 and 1960 around the 1915 Hendricks County Courthouse, with the 1866 county jail and sheriff's residence, now the county museum, a block away. The residential streets around the square hold houses from 1844 to 1920 in Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, American Foursquare and Craftsman bungalow styles. Behind their plaster is every generation of American wiring: knob-and-tube, cloth-covered cable, 1950s and 60s two-wire circuits with no ground, and 60 or 100 amp services with fuse boxes still in place in more attics and basements than you would guess.

The other Danville is newer. The Bevy, Quail West, Northwood Haven, Miles Farm and Pheasant Grove are the subdivisions filling the edges of town with ranches and two-stories on 200 amp services. West and south of the town limits the county turns rural fast: acreage, wells, long driveways and post-frame buildings, where an outage lasts longer and a standby generator earns its keep.

What we see in Danville houses

Fuse boxes and 100 amp services

In the century homes near the square, the service is the first thing to look at. A 200 amp upgrade with proper grounding is the job that makes every other improvement possible.

Ungrounded two-prong outlets

Plaster walls and no ground wire. We add grounded circuits where it matters most, use GFCI protection where the code allows it as a substitute, and are honest about which is which.

Knob-and-tube behind the plaster

Still live in some attics and walls. Insurers increasingly want it gone before a policy renews or a sale closes. We inspect, document and replace it in stages when the budget calls for that.

Buried junction boxes

A hundred years of handymen leave splices inside walls and ceilings. Finding them is what makes a Danville troubleshooting call different from an Avon one.

Wells, sump pumps and long outages

On the rural edges a power outage means no water and a wet basement. Standby generators with automatic transfer are the most requested job west of town.

Pole barns and shops

Feeders from the house or a separate service, 240-volt circuits for welders and compressors, and lighting sized for a tall building.

Where in Danville

The historic streets around the courthouse square, the neighborhoods along Main Street and the state roads out of town, the newer subdivisions on the north and east edges, and the farms and acreage that stretch west toward Putnam County and south toward Clayton. The storefronts and restaurants on the square are a regular part of our commercial work too.

Danville homeowners ask

Not always at once. We inspect to find where it is actually still live, since many houses have been partly rewired over the years. Insurers typically want the active knob-and-tube replaced; we can do the whole house or stage it, starting with the circuits that carry the most load, and give you the documentation the carrier asks for.

Yes. A service upgrade replaces the fuse box, the meter base and the service cable; the existing branch circuits are landed on new breakers. Walls stay closed unless a circuit turns out to be unsafe, and we tell you if that happens before we touch it.

A well pump has a high starting load, so it drives the sizing more than its running wattage suggests. Well pump, furnace, sump, fridge and lights is a common rural Danville load list and fits a mid-size standby; add central air and it steps up. We size from your actual pump and equipment, not a chart.
