Lighting and Ceiling Fan Installation in Hendricks County
Recessed lights laid out so the kitchen has no dark corners, fixtures hung level on boxes that can hold them, ceiling fans on fan-rated boxes so they do not wobble, and dimmers that match the bulbs so nothing buzzes.
Lighting is the cheapest way to change how a room feels
The same kitchen with one center fixture and with six well-placed recessed lights and under-cabinet strips is two different rooms. A bedroom with a ceiling fan on a proper box and a dimmer is one you actually want to be in. Lighting work is quick, it is affordable, and the difference shows the first evening.
Lighting and fan work we do
- Recessed lighting: new layouts in existing ceilings, or converting old cans to slim LED wafers
- Pendants, chandeliers and vanity fixtures, including heavy fixtures on braced boxes
- Ceiling fans, new or replacing a light, on fan-rated boxes with the right switching
- Under-cabinet, toe-kick and closet lighting
- Dimmers, three-way and four-way switches, timers and smart switches
- Light fixture repair: flickering, buzzing, sockets that overheated, cans that cycle off
Recessed lighting done right
The difference between recessed lighting that looks planned and lighting that looks like someone guessed is the layout. We space the fixtures to the ceiling height and the room, put task lighting over the counters and the sink rather than the walkway, keep the cans out of the path of joists and ductwork we can map from the attic or with a scope, and put them on the switches you will actually use. Slim LED wafers let us light rooms that have no attic access without opening the ceiling.
Ceiling fans that do not wobble
A fan is a moving weight. It needs a box listed for fan support, screwed to framing or a brace, not the plastic light box that came with the house. We install the fan-rated box, wire the fan and light on separate switches where you want them, balance the blades, and set the remote or the wall control. If a fan is going where there was no fixture, we run the circuit and patch as little drywall as possible.
Dimmers, smart switches and the neutral problem
LED bulbs buzz or flicker on dimmers made for incandescent lamps; the fix is a dimmer rated for LEDs and matched to the bulb. Many smart switches need a neutral wire in the box, which older homes in Danville and Plainfield often do not have at the switch. We know which smart switches work without one and can add a neutral when it is worth it.
Lighting work by town
Recessed retrofits in the builder-grade kitchens of Avon and Plainfield, fan installs in the two-story bedrooms of Brownsburg's newer subdivisions, and fixture and switch upgrades in the older homes around the Danville square where the boxes and the wiring get a look at the same time.
Lighting and fan questions
It depends on the ceiling height, the room size and how much of the light is task versus general. As a rule of thumb, fixtures spaced at about half the ceiling height apart give even coverage, with extra lights over the counters and the sink. We lay it out on the ceiling with you before drilling anything.
Yes, almost always. The existing box is replaced with a fan-rated box, which can usually be done from below without opening the ceiling. If you want the fan and light on separate switches and there is only one switch leg, we can add a wire or use a fan with a remote or a smart control.
The dimmer and the bulbs are not compatible, or the total wattage is below the dimmer's minimum. A dimmer rated for LEDs and matched to the bulb brand fixes most of it. If lights flicker with no dimmer involved, that can be a loose connection or a neutral problem and is worth a look.
Yes. Bring us the box and we will hang it. For heavy chandeliers we check that the ceiling box can carry the weight and add a brace if it cannot.
